In the words of Ernest Holmes, "Gratitude is not only a virtue, but it also is part of a practical philosophy of daily life. There is no wiser way of living than to remember every morning what Life has given us, and to lift up our thought in thankfulness for every bounty we possess."
Start your gratitude journey! For the next 40 days, find at least 10 reasons for which to be grateful. Your life truly is filled with blessings that often go unnoticed. Download the 40 day Gratitude Journal (Word or PDF format) to experience the transformative power of 40 through 40 days of gratitude.
“The moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.” “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” These are two compelling quotes about the power of the committed life. This month, we will unpack the deep and profound meanings behind these words as we each experience firsthand the power of the life committed to being and doing that which we came here to be and do.
October 3, 2021 – “Tapping the Power of Commitment” – Celebration Leader – Bridget
The power of commitment is as available to all of us just as electricity was available to all of us before we ever discovered how to access it. Today we begin the process of discovering, accessing and tapping this hidden power in new and exciting ways.
October 10, 2021 - “The Language of Commitment” – Celebration Leader – Charles
There is power in the unspoken thought. There is great power in the spoken word. Are you thinking and speaking the language of commitment or the language of hesitation and doubt? Find out today how to “move providence” with the words you think and say. Today also kicks off our 40 days of gratitude preceding Thanksgiving. Be sure to be with us to receive this year’s gratitude journal.
October 17, 2021 - “Passing the Point of No Return” – Celebration Leader – Leslie
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness,” wrote W. H. Murray. Until we have passed a point of no return, we are only potentially committed. But passing the point of no return releases that potential. Only then is the full power of our commitment available to us, including the power to change our mind about what is possible for us. What does this look like? What does this mean? Find out today!
October 24, 2021 – “The Source of Life Itself” – Celebration Leader – Grae
The power of commitment taps into the very Source of our Being. And when we consciously tap into the very Source of our Being, we have tapped into the Source of Life Itself, precisely as the Master Teacher Jesus did. This Sunday, as we bring our month of Committed Living to a close, we see the blessings that can unfold when we choose to definitely commit and advance confidently in the direction of our dreams!
October 31, 2021 – “Taize Service” – Celebration Leader – Grae
"I am committed to being who I came here to be and doing what I came here to do. I am committed to living the life I have imagined. Today, I stand committed, and I’m not turning back. Not now! Not ever!"
This book draws on the Gospel of Thomas. This Gospel, was not only deliberately omitted from the standard New Testament when the selection of writings was made, but also all findable copies were destroyed (4th Century?). Thomas is one of numerous buried scroll writings discovered in mid-20th C. by a farmer in Egypt. They had been stored in a pottery vessel and were found in a cave near a place called Nag Hammadi.
Following scholars of "Thomas", Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault explains that contrary to the version of Jesus many of us grew up with in Western Christianity, Jesus was a teacher of the transformation of consciousness. Ms. B. provides "a guide to Jesus' vision and the traditional contemplative practices you can use to experience the heart of his teachings for yourself." [From the Amazon Blurb]
On Amazon, you can "look inside the book", read reviews, and purchase if you choose. Amazon makes the book available on Kindle.
You can read Cynthia Bourgeault's bio at: https://www.contemplative.org/cynthia-bourgeault/
Our aim is to start discussing this book on Friday, September 10.
Our custom has been to meet 2-4 PM on Fridays, every second week. If you would like to read this book with us, but that is not a convenient time, please let me know. It might be possible to work something out.
