Who We Are:

We are an open and accepting spiritual community, honoring and nurturing the Divine in every person.  We are people from all walks of life who are committed to trusting in and living by spiritual principles.  As we embrace the wisdom of all the great spiritual teachings throughout the ages, we create a better life and a better world.  As Spiritual Beings, we uphold humanity’s right to live in a world of love, trust, and respect.
One Spirit New Thought Center is an independent new thought spiritual community that was formed by the merger of the Positive Living Center of Knoxville, (formerly led by Rev. Celeste Anne Schroeder), and Unity of Knoxville in 2014.

This idea first emerged in early 2013 when the leadership of both communities identified our many commonalities and complimentary assets.  With this in mind, the question became “Can we better serve the Greater Knoxville community together rather than separately?”   The answer was a resounding YES!

We are a vibrant, welcoming spiritual community that recognizes, honors and celebrates God as the loving intelligence within all life.  We realize abundant living through the practice and teaching of new thought principles and ancient wisdom.
We are a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

What is New Thought?

New Thought, as defined in the dictionary, is a modern spiritual philosophy stressing the power of right thinking in a person's life, the idea that our thoughts and attitudes affect our experience and that the divine power of God’s Spirit, is alive within each individual.

We honor and appreciate the universal spiritual principles inherent in all religious/spiritual paths.

New Thought is a belief system about becoming consciously connected with God. It’s about living from the awareness that we are in Divine partnership with God.

We believe that when we realize that life happens through us, NOT to us, we have an ability to shape our experiences.   Because we are in Divine partnership with God – the Creative Force of all Life – we too are creative beings.  We believe we create our lives through our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, attitudes, values, actions and words.  And when we have new thoughts, feelings, beliefs, attitudes, values, actions and words – we create new conditions.

Some New Thought Founders

Ernest Holmes, 1887-1960, founded the International Religious Science movement, wrote "The Science of Mind" and numerous other books on metaphysics, and originated the international periodical Science of Mind magazine in 1927. Holmes' Science of Mind teaching, recognized today as one of the leading viewpoints in modern metaphysics, is a spiritual philosophy that has brought to people around the world a working cosmology – a sense of their relationship to God and their place in the Universe – and a positive, supportive approach to daily living.

Charles Fillmore, 1854-1948 and Myrtle Fillmore, 1845-1931
Charles and Myrtle founded the Unity movement in the late 1880's.  He was a railroad freight clerk and Indian tradesman, and she was a school teacher, in fragile health, suffering from recurring tuberculosis. They married, had three sons, and roamed the west seeking a cure for Myrtle's illness.  In 1884 they came to Kansas City, and after some financial loss decided that spiritual work was their future. Together they launched the Modern Thought Publishing Company, and the Unity School of Christianity in 1914.  They started a magazine called Modern Thought, and launched Unity Magazine in 1889.  It was also from here that Silent Unity was broadcast on their radio station, and Daily Word were published.  The Unity School continues to be a beacon of spiritual light to the world to millions of individuals through its various ministries of prayer, publishing, and education.
